Syracuse Transfer WR Johntay Cook Joins Ole Miss
Former Syracuse wide receiver Johntay Cook has committed to Ole Miss via the NCAA Transfer Portal, bringing his exceptional skills to the Rebels. With one season of eligibility remaining, Cook is set to make a significant impact on the team.
Cook's journey began at Texas, where he spent two seasons honing his craft. In his time with the Longhorns, he made 18 appearances, accumulating 32 catches for 273 yards and two touchdowns. However, his true potential was unleashed during his lone season with Syracuse, where he made 12 appearances, recording 45 catches for 549 yards and two touchdowns.
A standout high school player at DeSoto (TX), Cook was a five-star prospect and ranked as the No. 31 overall player and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. His talent and potential have now been recognized by Ole Miss.
This commitment marks the 21st player to join Ole Miss via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. At the time of his decision, Cook was ranked No. 63 wide receiver in On3's 2026 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Ole Miss is embarking on a new era under the leadership of head coach Pete Golding, who guided the Rebels to the College Football Playoff in his first year. Despite falling short in the CFP semifinals against Miami, the team's performance was a promising sign for the future.
Cook isn't the only former Syracuse wide receiver making the move to Ole Miss. Darrell Gill, another standout player, has also committed to the Rebels. In the 2025 campaign, Gill showcased his talent with 32 catches for 506 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.
